Soaring with The Boy Who Flies: Paraglider inspires Malawi

Soaring with The Boy Who Flies: Paraglider inspires kids in Malawi, Africa to stay in school and realize their dreams!

Godfrey Masauli, the one and only paraglider pilot is his native Malawi, Africa, visits Oregon to sharpen his skills both in the air, and on the ground as a messenger of possibility. He is inspiring children in his country to dare to follow their dreams, as he did in becoming “The Boy Who Flies.” This film captures his story of flying & soaring and, yes, it is powerfully uplifting.

“Ndizotheka!”  “It is possible!”

kidsThe CloudBase Foundation is proud partner with Godfrey Masauli, Malawi’s first paraglider pilot, in the realization of his dream.

Godfrey’s heart desire is to spread inspiration to children in Malawi with the intention of helping to reduce the school drop out rate. He plans to pass the inspiration through his passion of flying and also establish an inspirational centre and a traveling program.  In Malawi, over 75% of students which start grade 1 will not reach grade 8. The inspirational centre will serve as a community center focused on providing self-esteem boosting activities to encourage students to stay in school, help young adults find the inspiration and tools to begin their careers, and Malawi’s first paragliding school.

During the paragliding season (May-Oct), Godfrey hopes to establish a sustainable tourism economy, serving as a paragliding school and tandem operation for both foreigners and locals.

During the off-season (Nov-Apr), the school will serve as a community center focused on providing self-esteem boosting activities to encourage students to stay in school and help young adults find the inspiration and tools to begin their careers. Local paragliding instructors and tandem pilots will travel to remote areas delivering workshops to children and young adults in schools throughout Malawi.group

The project intends to have a core group of competent, Malawian instructors and tandem pilots whom are able to cater to foreigners, ultimately generating enough funds for the school to sustain it’s day to day operations.
Programs for children include:
– Dream discussion
– Kite building
– Paraglider demonstration

I haven’t been able to connect with Godfrey, but the purity of his heart and the person he is will carry him far – if that is what he chooses. I see him as one of Africa’s potential new age leaders in a dire time in the world. It was an honor to share with him my experience and to hope it gave him some new tools.
