Thank you for this wonderful segment on what we can do as women, men, humans to change the culture of birth in our country and around the world! I’ve been actively working as a labor support doula for the last nine years and am now preparing for the homebirth of my first born! I am moving into this experience with anticipation and excitement about the “immense possibilities” trusting that my body, my baby, my team (husband, midwife, and doula!) are going to have the most blissful birth possible, whatever the outcome. I am open to these possibilities because I am informed and educated about my choices and have been actively engaged in each and every one of them from the beginning! I admire the women on your program (those LIVE and those in the film clips) and the women who are going to rise up and take back birth with their voices!

Birth is such an intense experience. I have grown immensely with the birth of each of my children. Four home births and four beautiful healthy people that were blessed to come into the world at home. I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to choose this safe, pleasant, spiritual journey as a Women, home birth. I respect the hospital birth if that is the family’s choice or in an emergency. I am a advocate of home birth, it is amazing to honor women, babies and the bodies of both working together with ancient knowledge that modern medicine cannot holistically replicate. My children are mellow and I attribute allot of this personality trait to their first experience in life being at home and not being poked and prodded out of their newborn peace. Consider home birth it is worth it!

Cudos for tackling this issue on your program. As a Peri and Prenatal Psychotherapist, I understand the effect pregnancy and birth has on our babies lives, not just physically but emotionally as well. The medical establishment has not yet grasped the lifelong effect obstetrical interventions has on our lives. In the healing birth trauma in adults, I can usually tell the obstetrical interventions the client experienced by the issues they have come to me to resolve. If we truly understood the implications of medicalized hospital births on our society… we would understand that the increase in violence is a direct result…we would understand that cesarean sections create a more controllable population, and we would understand the increase in depression, ADHD,and rage in our children. Suzzane Armes touched on this but much more needs to be said, written about and exposed. We have almost 45 years of research behind us in this field and the results, as you heard on this program, are showing that women must be educated and empowered to reclaim birth from the medical establishment.

Thank you for this wonderful video. I am a woman nearing the end of my second pregnancy, and gearing up for that magical, transformative opportunity of giving birth.
During my first pregnancy I received prenatal care from a doctor, she was a great Dr. the natural water birth Dr in town. My appts with her were very short and sweet. Maybe 15 minuets, much of which were spent with her nurse and I was given absolutely zero nutritional counseling.
During the end of my last trimester I found the gumption to declare that even though my insurance wasn’t going to pay for it, I really wanted a home birth, and I was gonna do whatever it took to give myself that opportunity. So I found a midwife.
I was completely amazed by the depth of care I received from her. My appointments were at least an hour long, they covered every facet of my well being, mind body and soul. So much time and space were given to the many changes I was experiencing in facing the transition of becoming a mother for the first time.
I basically could write for hours about the honor and dignity with which me and my family were served by my beautiful midwife. The way that my baby never left my presence after she was born. The level of sensitivity and respect that my brand new infant was shown whenever her little body was being touched.
Basically I would have loved to see this video emphasize the quality of care that a midwife is able to give to a family. And how much more care women get from a midwife than a doctor. They give so much love, so much time.
I hope that no matter where or how a woman gives birth she gets that kind of support and care from the professionals who are helping her.
